Here in Canada, CanMEDS' Physician Competency Framework, initially developed by the Royal College in the 1990s, identifies and defines roles, abilities, and competencies that are necessary in all areas of medical practice, in addition to the educational foundation standards that guide teaching and assessments in residency programs in Canada.
Part of sharing essential information for effective health care is providing patient-centered therapeutic communication. CanMEDS' Physician Competency Framework identifies physicians as "Communicators" and defines the benefits of effective communication skills and the required key competencies for professional practice - these skills and competencies form part of the evaluation criteria for the NAC-OSCE. For this reason, I highly recommend perusing CanMEDS' comprehensive website and familiarizing yourself with their detailed patient-centered communication standards.
